Happy birthday world!
We had lots of fun this week celebrating Rosh Hashana(the Jewish new year) First we made our own artwork for the holiday. We painted with blue, yellow and green. Some of us noticed that when we mixed the blue and yellow together it made green! Then we put on the shofar, apple, and honeypot that we made last week. We all had a choice of different colored glitter to shake on. It was fun to see where the glitter would stick.
On Wednesday we looked at the different colors of apples. Andrea and BeLinda cut them up and we each tasted the red, green and yellow apples. Everyone got to pick which was their favorite. The teachers wrote the name of each child on the color apple they chose. We made a chart and counted together to see how many of each color were chosen. We all really love counting!
At the end of the day we got together with all of the other classes to sing songs and have cupcakes to say happy birthday world!
Rosh Hashana
Just a reminder that there is no school tomorrow or Friday. Shanah Tovah to those who celebrate. Have a great weekend. See you all on Monday.
Music, music and more music!
We have made it through our second full week of school and you may have noticed that there is a lot of music at preschool.
Outside of the classroom we have music with the whole school every Wednesday. This is lead by Rabbi/Cantor Bernstein and Sandy. On Fridays we meet with the whole school again to celebrate Shabbat. This includes lots of singing and circle dancing!
Each class also has music once a week with our music teacher Miss Diana. Because this is a smaller group there is a lot of movement and playing instruments while we sing.
This is all in addition to the singing, dancing, playing instruments, exploring the keyboard and listening to music we do every day in the Parparim class.
Here is an excerpt from the Johns Hopkins University website about music and learning.
Music helps us learn because it will–
establish a positive learning state
create a desired atmosphere
build a sense of anticipation
energize learning activities
change brain wave states
focus concentration
increase attention
improve memory
facilitate a multisensory learning experience
release tension
enhance imagination
align groups
develop rapport
provide inspiration and motivation
add an element of fun
accentuate theme-oriented units
Back to school night!
Tomorrow, Wednesday, night is back to school night. 7:00-8:30 pm. See you there!
First full week of school.
What a fun week we have had. On Monday we spent time in the garden. On Wednesday we had our first music time with Cantor for the year. We began learning about Rosh Hashana, the Jewish new year, and heard the sounds of a real Shofar( a ram’s horn blown to bring in the holiday)!
On Thursday we had fun finger painting with Fall colors. ( red, brown and yellow). Friday we celebrated Shabbat in the classroom and ate Challah. Then we celebrated with the whole school with song and dance. All of the children are enjoying their new class and are quickly becoming friends.
Next Wednesday evening is back to school night. I look forward to seeing you all there.
BeLinda
I hope everyone will help in giving a great big welcome to BeLinda Singer. She will be joining us in the Parparim class on MWF starting next week. I am so excited for all of you to meet and get to know her.
